(More customer reviews)Antec frequently update and refresh their cases usually electing to incrementally update its name/number ie: 900/902 or p180/p182/p183 and so on.The Antec three hundred has been an award winner for its flexible layout, cooling ability (with optional additional fans) and value.Being able to place the new two and three hundred side by side, functionally and layout wise they are near identical.The difference rather than creating a three hundred and two with an incremental update, they chose to retain the award winning quality's of the three hundred and focus on getting the best feature case at the best possible price with the new model.From the simple non graphic shipping box to the basic included screw set (the 300 has a large QTY of thumbscrews included), nothing extra was spent that the user would need.Even the back panel cut out as shipped, the one you replace anyway, is purposely not included.Two improvements the 200 brings are external L/M/H fan adjustments for the included 120mm (Horizontal) and 140mm (Vertical) exhaust fans (cutouts exists for owner supplied 120mm intake fans, two front over the 3.5 HD area and one side for the GPU).The second is an access door and hardware for a hot swappable 3.5 drive.
One area that was revised was the air filtration for the user supplied front intake fans.On the three hundred a separate metal cage houses the fan and a fine mesh easily removed clip on screen are used as filters.On the two hundred, a simple plastic mount for the fan to the case and a non removable foam insert is screwed into the front panel.Not a major to clean, as the whole front assembly can be removed to wash under the sink tap and dried, just not as elegant as the three hundreds.
The front of the cases are the most notable difference, both use subtle blue leds to indicate power & HD use, simple reset & power switches, mic & headphone jack and two USB ports (NO Firewire in front).The three hundred has an industrial flat mesh look while the two hundred has a more modern gamerish plastic bulge but still rather subtle compared to the exotic gamer cases.
So the two hundred is functionally near identical to the older three, it offers a focus on bang for the buck.Even at this price point its important to shop for price however as the three hundred frequently is offered at 30% less or with additional fans, I'm sure the two hundred will be the same as its great value.
