I have a CM 690 Nvidia Edition, so I already know how good the CM 690 is. When Cooler Master came out with this one, I was so jealous at the new features with this one because they were what I would want in my 690. I bought the CM 690 II for my brother's new computer build, as his current case is too small and already houses an older system.

What I do like with this case vs. the old 690 is the wider cable management slots, the thumbscrew expansion brackets, the black finish (inside and out), and the CPU retention bracket slot. As with all CM 690s, old and new, this case is the biggest mid-tower out there, and it barely costs $100. This case is designed to have the best amount of room possible for GPU's without making users pay up for a full tower, or modifying to make the GPU's fit.

The newer cable management slots make it much easier to hide the cables, and in most cases, you won't need to buy cable extensions. The CPU bracket slot is so convenient because you do not have to take the motherboard out to install a cooler like the Hyper N520 which has backplate mounts. In the old 690, the expansion slots were held in by plastic latches that did not hold the cards very well. In the new 690, there are a series of thumbnail screws which still makes mounting add-on cards tool-less while maintaining the security of screws. The tool-less brackets for the hard drives and media drives seem to be stronger than the older ones, but I still mount them with real screws (can never be too careful).

The all black finish makes the case look a little more cooler, but not as cool as the limited black edition cases that CM sold. The power and reset buttons I do not like on the newer version because they are small black circle buttons on the top. The older case had two chrome-like buttons on the side that were easier to press. A nice addition for the hardcore gamers is the removal of the bottom part of the hard drive bay. This gives room to mount the water cooling radiator on the inside of the case, and on the bottom of it because cold air falls, hot air rises.

Most of the other features the older case already has such as water tube holes, bottom mounted PSU, dust filters, multiple fan mounts, external ports at the top, etc. What was missing from this case that was in mine was the foam molding around the PSU mounting area. This is to help reduce vibration against the back of the case, but since this case did not come with it, I used a silicone cover that came with my PSU to put on my brother's PSU.

If you want a big case, but can't afford a full tower, the CM 690 is the way to go. Even when you compare them to an Antec 900, the CM 690 is much bigger. I help others out with computers builds, and 9 times out of 10 they buy one of the versions of the CM 690 because of the huge amount of space for an affordable price. It is also built well and looks very good. The CM 690 II took the best case in the world and made it better.
